Ecowas supports the creation of a court to try crimes committed by Yahya Jammeh

ECOWAS has supported the establishment of a special court to address serious crimes under former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh’s regime.

ECOWAS said the court would try human rights violations committed between 1994 and 2017.Jammeh is accused of crimes including kidnapping, murder and arbitrary detention during his rule.He was granted political asylum in Equatorial Guinea in 2017 after being defeated in an election by Gambia’s current president, Adama Barrow.
